Alaia or skim board ?
Ha ha I have had that many little grommies and people that just don't know their history say to me "hey mate you know that you dont surf that, it's a skim board you know". So lately on my run arounds at the pass I have been taking their advise and using my 8'9 Alaia as a skim board and suprise suprise its a lot of fun.
cheers to Inbyronbaytoday for the pic.

back on the fish.
Lately I have been spending alot of time on my log. So last night I went in search of some fun shories to go fishing. I surfed this fun little wave at tallows that had nice walls, the odd barrel and the occasional air section. I had alot of fun and it was great to be back on my fish.
Thanks to my friends from Inbyronbaytoday for the Pic.

little runners.
I spent the this last weekend on the coffs coast but before I shot back up to Byron I caught up with my shaper and good friend Sage at a fun little right hand point to catch the last few waves of the day as the sun went down.
Cheers to STsurfimages for the pics.
NZ bargains...
Earlier this year when little Em and I campervaned our way around sunny New Zealand, we stumbled across this little farm stall at the end of a really long driveway in the middle of nowhere that had horse poo, pine cones and bird feathers for sale. Ha ha what a cracker and a darn good bargain. They had a little honesty box ( a Flora margarine tub) that little Em put 50cents in for a big feather but she thought $4 for a pine cone was a bit steep.

MR Vouch.
So I haven't been blogging alot lately as I have been pretty caught up with uni, However I have been sneaking in a fair few late sessions at the pass that have been really fun. This is my real good mate Evan he is from the bay and we surf pretty much every arvo on dark. He manages the Donald Takayama factory in Byron and makes his own lable called VOUCH you should check out some of his work its pretty cool.
Cheers to our friends from Inbyronbaytoday for the pic.

After noon wash off.
Its easter school holidays in NSW which means that the bay and especially the pass gets super busy. My friends and I like to leave our sessions to about 1hr before dark and we generally surf till about 1/2 hour after dark as the crowds are usually a little less hectic by then. Below are a few shots that my friends from In Byron Bay today snapped up yesterday evening as my friends and I washed the day off.
Myself playing around.
Isabelle getting the tip time at speed.
Mahala hasn't been in the water for a while so it was nice to see her smile while catching a few with her.
This seems to be a daily event.
Mike geting some sweet 5 time.

9ft shortboard regional titles.
Over the weekend the Far north coast regional titles were held at Lennox head on the beachies. The surf was just like every other contest an epic half a foot slightly onshore and high tide. I was competing for the open mens regional title and this year it seemed that every one turned up to have a go from guys like Ben Dickens, Dane Pioli, Ruben & Keenan Roxburgh, Scotty Channon, Beau Nixion and plenty more great surfers from the local area as well as a massive school of mullet, a few blue bottles and in the final a little reef shark turned up just to give dane a scare. At Noosa I snapped my HP so just like at the Malfunction I had to borrow boards heat for heat all the way to the final. The final was held at low tide so the bank had shifted to the outer bank leaving a massive gutter on the inside. The waves were short and closing out so Barrel Benny Dickens, Dane Pioli, Scotty Channon and myself really had to be selective. I got a few but I wasn't super confident as the coditions were testing and I new that the other guys had all had a couple as well. It turns out that my selection was not bad as I finished 2nd to Dane with Benny coming in 3rd and scotty 4th, a tight final and a super fun day even though the waves weren't pumping. Look out State title.
These pics are not from the contest as it was not worth taking any on the day however they are Tommy woods pics of me down home getting my 9ft shortboard on.

Green pastures...
Over the last few months I have been learning the art of swinging the club, ha ha I'm really bad at it but I have been having a lot of fun. I have been getting the odd birdy and par but usually I'm definately good for a bogie. I got given my own set of Greg Norman graphite clubs just recently so I guess I am starting to really look the part ha ha. Golf is really frustrating but a load of fun when there is no waves.

Solitude.
This is why I ride the boards I do.
The boards I ride Valla surfboards are built from 40 yrs of handcrafting history and to me that is something quite special. Not only do I have a shaper that still shapes by hand to develop new ideas and concepts but as you can see Sage puts every model to the test and does so quite well.
Nice clip Nathan.
