on the road with Brett

I hit the road with Brett and his bro Jaya yesterday in search of some logging waves and while the weather didn't deliver ideal lighting for photos the waves were really fun. Travelling with Brett is a joy, it never gets boring. The 2 hour trip seemed like 10 minutes with his front seat entertainment.
Above is just a taste of what I captured on this rainy wednesday.

Sage Joske.

So this is my shaper but also good mate Sage Joske. Sage has been making my boards for about three to four years now and I am so greatful to be apart of what he is doing as he has opened my mind to so many different ways to ride a wave.
Just recently Sage, Jack and myself have been working on a new promo for Valla surf boards with good buddy Nathan Oldfield, it's exciting, happy and just makes me want to go surfing. It is about to be released so make sure you keep an eye out for it.

Surfing with friends.

One of my most favourite things to do around summer time is to pile the boards into the car with a bunch of mates and go on little surf trips. Today sage, Jack, Tom Woods, my little bro and I did just that and shot down to Crescent Head for the day.  There was a little east swell running that was super fun for the logs and the timber and suprisingly the crowd must have stayed home today. We surfered all day only stopping to refuel at the famous creso bakery, it's amazing.

Lip line..

I ride a fair range of boards. Fishes, logs, timbers and I even spend a  bit of time on the HP 9ft long board.
This is a Tom Woods pic of me doing one of my favourite turns, a grab rail lip line. Give it a try some time.

The glide...

This is one of my favourite things to do.
I love to sometimes leave the turns on the beach and takeout my 8'9 Alaia and just enjoy the trim and speed that I can gain from just going in a straight line.
Theres nothing like it.

Angles...

So this Pic was shot by no other than Mr Tom Woods himself. If you have not seen or heard of Tom woods he is a young enthusiastic photographer from the Coffs coast that is really snapping up a storm.
Check out his website and blog because he surely is talented.

Tallows

I shot back up the coast to Byron yesterday morning to start a shift at sick curl at 8:30. Man I have done some K's recently. My sick curl shift finished around 6pm last night and all I wanted to do was get in the water to wash the day off. The tide was nearlly full and I new that there would be some fun ones on this little rip bowl that I have been surfing lately.
Check out these shots of the Volta in action, Thanks to Ben from In Byron Bay tobay and Levi from Soularch.

Road trippin..

Last week Sage, Jack and I piled a stack of boards, boxes of T’s and a bunch of Jack’s mum’s awesome homemade treats into PJ’s new van and headed off down the coast to old Sydney town. The mission was to get a whole lot of Valla T’s printed up ready for summer, do a little filming with our good buddy Nathan Oldfield for a new Valla promo and hang with our dear friends Jim and Suzie from the Critical Slide Society who are amazing hosts.

The week was a success. We surfed a bucket load, the T’s were smashed out over two days, the boards made it to Alpine Beach, the food was unreal and each day was polished off with a long bottle of Mr Coopers Green. Jack and I got a little artistic one afternoon and decided to give my old yellowing Volta a makeover. Weapons of choice were Posca’s, spray paint, masking tape, stencils and a projector thanks to Mr Mitchell.

Here’s a few pics from the trip.

Long lines.

The Valla fish that I love to ride the most is the Volta.
I really enjoy the speed and power that this board delivers through long drawn out lines.
Tom Woods has captured just what I am talking about in the pic above.

Alaia x Fish = VECTOR

We have been lucky enough now to have been able to ride the timber boards for a number of years.
My Shapers Paul and Sage Joske are constantly amazing me with their creativity and excellent craftsmanship.
Sage recently combinded his favourite fish with an Alaia template and called it the Vector.
Check out this clip that Woodsy put together of Jack Lynch and I sliding around my new home break the Pass.

Speed blur..

So I have decided to do my own blog to keep you all up to date with my adventures and things that inspire me. Here is a speed blur that my good buddy Tom Woods snapped of me early this year on a modified Alaia.
