So I'm getting married in just 4 weeks and this pick pretty much sums up how pumped, stoked and incredibly happy I am at this point in my life right now. This pic was taken randomly on New Years Day at the Pass... Cheers Dustin for the pic. Its one of Emmy and I's favorite things to do together. It just so rad to be able to share something that brings so much joy into our lives together. The sled is a insane 12 footer hand crafted by Mr Paul Joske. Wow I really have been super slack on the post front! Lots has been happening though. In between organising Little Em's and my wedding, I've been getting to know two new shred sticks: a thruster and a purple twin keel. Both are really doing me up a treat.

On Saturday night I took a knee and a gamble and asked Little Em if she would like to spend the rest of her life with me. I'd planned on asking her before the end of the year but I wasn't sure how. People had told me in the past that when you propose, make it big because you only get one chance. I had been trying to think of the perfect way propose that would be romantic, memorable and "big" but all the ideas just seemed too cliched and not quite us.

However last Saturday night provided the perfect opportunity to ask my lady friend the big question. We were sitting on the headland devouring our fish and chippies and were staring up at the sky spotting constellations, satellites and the odd UFO. The moon had lit up the ocean and we could hear the sound of the ocean crashing up against the rocks. I knew this was it.

I asked her to stand up so I could straighten the blanket, (that of course didn't need straightening at all). I took a knee and I let my heart do the talking. Lil Em paused for a moment and said "can I tell you on Monday?"... Nah just joking!

I asked her if she'd marry me and she replied "Yes please".

A little while ago I convinced Little Em to start a blog for her health food shop Essential Health. She's wasn't too keen at first but now she's all over it like a rash (like the ones she helps people out with at work).

For example, Little Em's parentals emailed through some photos from their travels and I mentioned that I wanted to blog about it when I got home from work today. Before I knew it, the blogging enthusiast snavelled up my idea and pipped me to the post.

The past two week have been super hectic. I pretty much have been living in the uni library in Lismore getting my nerd on with two friends. We commandeered this space and turned it into the total study haven consisting of laptops, calculators, text books, 5 massive white boards filled with smart stuff and a time-out bean bag in the corner for those moments of close brain explosion. Due to this there hasn't been to much surf action going down for this salty sea dog but come the 5th of October I will have finished my final exam of my undergraduate degree and I will be looking forward to 3months of sun, surf and good times. bring it on.

Tonight (19th august) The Hoey Moey will be screening some of ST surfimages short surfing films. It’s part of the Ash Grunwald tour called “road dog diaries”. In between sets, local Coffs surfers will be up on the big screen to hoot at. They'll show full clips of Johnny Craig, Harley Ingleby and myself as well as cameo appearances from Jayke Sharp, Mat Wyborn, Shaun Cansdell and some local surf dogs like Steve “Simmo” Simpson, his brother Greg, Andrew Lindsay, Max Lindsay, Rees Duncan, Warwick Appleton, Scotty Schindler, Josh Collins and few more that you may recognise. Doors open to the gig around 8 O’clock.

I recently score a bit of money from Miss Gillard the PM to buy myself some new text books for my final year of study. Instead I hoped on down to my local surf shop and scored myself an MT5 surf mat...epic. Initially my first adventures on the MT5 were pretty ordinary as I couldn't figure out how to get these things to trim as it seems to be totally different from anything I have ever ridden. It seemed kind of slow which was strange because when I had ever seen anyone else on one they looked like they were going top speed. However two nights ago my local point was really turning it on and looked perfect for a mat froth. It was crazy, I have never smiled and laughed in a surf session so much in my life. I am definitely hooked, the things are insane and give you such a different perspective. I give the MT5 two thumbs up.

The joy of simply riding a wave. Not every arvo session at monkeys is super logular, however me and my buddies usually take advantage of what ever its got to offer especially when its really clean. Most approaches towards the nose are done in a forward motion (often referred to as the cross step) quite the challenge for most of us.

Last night I caught up with Derek for a bit of a slid session at the pass. It was perfect, the waves were like three foot and super bowlly. I was riding one of Sages Vectors and Derek was on the 3rd generation model of his original finless craft. Derek was ripping. It's unbelievable how much control he has over that board. I mean I guess it's pretty strange in this day and age to get so much joy from simply trimming in a straight line but for me its like no other. I love the trim, how much speed you get and the fact that these boards take you to places on the wave that you would normally not go. It's truly just so much fun.

I recently got a new "Sage shapes" Log. It's blood red and has a massive white spot on the bottom side. I haven't yet surfed it but I'm super psyched to. Once again a fun 10 days of friends, beers, gelati, waves and good times is over for yet another year. Reality hit pretty hard this morning when my alarm went off at 6am for me to get ready for a long hard catch up day of uni. My goal this year was to just make one heat as I have never done this before. I actually made the final but placed fourth due to my lack of ability to surf waves that are micro small. Here's a couple of pic's that Bevo snapped up early in the week while there was a bit of swell still running.

The last few days has been Pass madness. The most perfect little grinders, epic for any craft. Last night it was super crowded so I grabbed my fins and hand plane and got amongst it in hope to score a few sneaky ones. The latest ALB (australian longboard mag) hit the shelves last week and Brett Caller scored the trifecta!!! he got his first ever cover shot care of a Dane Peterson speed blur... but it didn't stop there, inside he got a full pager taken by Mark Onorati in Sydney, and then he was the subject of choice for ALB's first lift-out poster, which I was stoked to have taken at little while back at Arrawarra point. It's probably the best ALB mag I've seen in a while, its new landscape format is really working well.

I recently got my hands (well feet rather) on a 1967 Keith Paul old mal. It's hands down the best old mal I've ever ridden. It turns on a dime and trims unbelievable. I find it amazing that some thing that was made such a long time ago can perform so good. I guess it shows that in terms of logging shapers back in the day were well a head of their time.

I got up nice and early this morning just in time to see the sunrise and to realise that the Northerly had not yet given up. So I headed down to this little northern corner near my house in hope to find a couple of fun little runners. Much to my surprise not only did I find some fun waves but Mr Oldfield himself. From that point on I knew it was going to be a great day. Nice to surf with you Nat.

I recently hurt my ankle so I haven't been able to surf. I have however been doing a bunch of body surfing with my Thomas Bexton hand plane. I love the feeling of riding a wave this way it's really something else. I don't have any recent body womp pic's but I found this one by Tim Mckenna which I reckon pretty well describes that feeling I get.

Last week I was sifting through my board shed at my mums house when I found this old Bob Cooper twin fin. This board was pretty much the board that instigated my transition from the modern thruster to the variety of boards that I ride today. I pulled it out of the shed fully amped to get it wet when I realised that old faithful was looking a little worse for wear. I slapped a couple of stickers over the dings and got out there.

I only got a couple of waves this day but the few waves that I did get were so fun and made me remember why my surfing has gone the way it has.
